Life cycle of materials

The Grey energy

The grey energy is the energy which  is necessary to spend on making and distributing the product but also on extracting raw materials and finally on eliminating or recycling the product at the end of its life.

To give an idea, the materials used in the construction of an average house in a conventional way require 700 000 in a million kWh. This grey energy represents  50 to 100 years of heating and hot water consumption.
